This year, during the Olympics, Nike released a new commercial, and if you’re expecting the typical ripped abs and taut arms, you’re in for a surprise. This Nike Greatness ad features 12-year-old Nathan Sorrell, a young man who weighs 200 lb, jogging alone down a lonesome road.

“Find Your Greatness” – The Nike Greatness Ad

Apparently, the commercial has stirred up a lot of controversy. Some call it demeaning and exploitative, while others are inspired by it.

I have a soft spot for Nike ads. When I first started training regularly, their magazine ads – the original Nike Women campaign – really inspired me to put on my running shoes and hit the pavement. The were selling power back then, and confidence, and for this late teens/early 20’s woman, they were selling exactly what I needed (even if I couldn’t yet afford to buy a pair of their shoes).

What do you think? Does the Nike Greatness ad inspire you to “Find your greatness?” Can you relate to Nathan, his struggle, and his determination, or do you think the NikeĀ  Greatness ad is nothing but a cruel publicity stunt? Let me know in the comments section below.
